Thinking outside the box for a new Industrial Vacuum brief.
Glass beads. Extreme temperatures. No pains power. Here’s how we found exactly the right industrial vacuum for a Northeast manufacturer - and why the site visit made all the difference.
The Challenge
Not every enquiry starts with a simple “which vacuum do I need?”. Some arrive with a specification that makes you stop and think.
A leading Northeast manufacturer of glass beads and abrasive materials needed an industrial vacuum capable of operating in genuinely demanding conditions: temperatures ranging from -15°C to +35°C, a damp and sometimes wet environment, and a requirement to collect highly abrasive glass grains and glass beads without clogging or wearing out. On top of that, the machine had to be fully portable — no fixed power supply, free to move across the entire facility, and simple enough for any member of staff to operate.
It’s exactly the kind of brief that highlights why a one-size-fits-all approach does not work in industrial cleaning.
This week, Rich at a leading UK manufacturing plant for glass beads and abrasive materials in the Northeast.
The Site Visit
Before we recommend anything, we look. Our Operations Director Richard Moore visited the facility to see the environment first-hand, the scale of the site, how the space is used day-to-day, and the real conditions the machine would face in operation.
That visit confirmed what the spec sheet suggested but also revealed details you simply can’t pick up remotely: the distances the machine needed to travel, the layout of the working areas, and how quickly staff needed to be back up and running between uses. Downtime was not an option.
The Solution
The answer was the Nilfisk VHB120 - a compact, battery-powered industrial vacuum, built precisely for environments where mains power is not possible.
The VHB120 delivers up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning on a single charge, and its hot-swap battery system means there’s virtually no downtime between charges. When you do need to top up, the advanced lithium-ion battery reaches 90% capacity in and around two hours - fast enough to keep pace with a busy production environment.
Crucially, it’s built to handle abrasive materials without complaint, and its compact, manoeuvrable design means it can get into the areas of a facility where larger machines simply can’t follow.
Demonstration
Our Operations Director Rich conducted a live demonstration on site with the client’s team. Seeing the VHB120 battery powered industrial vacuum cleaner perform in their own environment, against their own materials gave the team real confidence in its performance.
We are confident this is the start of a long-term relationship.
When the right machine lands in the right environment, it tends to speak for itself.

There is no better test, than the real thing.
